My Holiday Rant

The first few weeks of December is always so busy for Jay and I. Between his choir concerts and my voice recitals our poor girls are with the babysitter more than us. Well this year has been the worst of all years. All together we have had about 12 concerts and recitals in two weeks! Kaelyn (my almost 4 year old) has reverted back to pooping in her panties and having pee pee accidents, my kids are not listening to anything I am saying and there is more arguing than playing between them. Happy holidays at the Dougherty house!

I love Christmas and the chance I have to celebrate it with music, but this is ridiculous and I cannot wait to be able to see my family. After tonight Jay will be done with his performances and then I will only have a recital next Friday so I am hoping that our schedule will slow down so we can spend more time with our beautiful daughters and focus on family (and my house, but we won't go there)!! AND have a date night with my husband - which I haven't had since the beginning of November because our Friday and Saturday nights have been jammed with something or the other. Oh and I have not started shopping yet!

Sorry to my readers for complaining, but I needed to write this down to remember it for next year and hopefully find a solution! Maybe Grandma can come to live with us next year for the first three weeks in December. What do you think Grandma? Oh man I love my kids! I hate to see them like this!

Three Little Mommies

The other day I caught my girls playing babies on my bed. Brooklyn is a baby fanatic (sleeps with a baby doll, pushes her babies in stroller all day, etc.) and when it comes to real babies Brooklyn can't help, but mother them. The older girls however, aren't huge on playing with dolls. It was cute to hear them mother the dolls and talk about when they are real mommies.

Oh and the video at the end is of the girls having fun during one family night. It was so much fun to watch them.

Snow, Snow and more Snow!

Just a few days ago we were celebrating Fall and now it is snowing! I love the seasons, but snow in October? Really? And it is coming down. Jay said that it was due to snow for 18 hours straight! I don't know who was more excited this morning. Me anticipating the girls reaction when they saw snow outside or the girls when they actually saw snow outside? It was a fun EARLY morning (hence the pictures are in the dark).

Today we aren't going anywhere (Maddy already has the day off). We will probably go out a few times to play, but staying home and enjoying the snow sounds so relaxing!

Our Visit to the Pumpkin Patch!

Thanks to some good friends of ours we can now say we have been to a REAL pumpkin patch. Yesterday we went to a local pumpkin patch where you can go and cut your own pumpkin off the vine. They had field after field of pumpkins!! As you entered the farm they handed you a knife and instructions and then we drove around until we found a good spot. Did I mention there were a lot of people? A LOT! There were so many cars in line and driving around the farm that I felt like we were in the Field of Dreams movie.

After we found some pumpkins we then drove over to an area where they had free activities for the kids to do and farm animals to pet. The girls loved it and so did we. We decided that we are definitely doing this again next years.

Brooklyn LOVES Babies!

Brooklyn loves babies! Anytime she sees one she will run to it and then proceed to talk to it in a high pitched, sweet talk while touching the babies hands and face. Usually this happens at the library during story time or at church so I try to stop her from touching the baby too much. However, Brooke has a cousin who is only 2 1/2 months old and when we go to visit her (they live about 20 minutes away) I am a little more relaxed. Here is a video of Brooke loving baby Corrine this past weekend. What a good mommy she is! Sorry Julie for the slight abuse to Corrine at the end :)

I Just Love Fall!

I just love fall!! I love waking up every morning and look at the leaves on the trees across the street changing colors. I love how it is chilly in the morning and then warms up to the perfect temperature to be outside playing. I love that fall brings pumpkins! (Jay just reminded me the other day that Maddy's first and favorite word for a while was "pumpkin".) We bought several of them at the store the other day and decorated our planters with them.

I love the breeze that fall brings. My A/C broke in my van the other day, but it hasn't been a problem at all with the nice cool breeze!

Kaelyn today collected two fall leaves. One was red and the other a yellow color. She was so happy she had collected them. The red one she called "pink" and since it was pink it was her favorite one.

At story time at the library a few days ago the girls and I picked out a whole bunch of books about Halloween and the fall. We have been reading them over and over.

It rained the other day, all day and the temperatures dropped to the 50's. I just wanted to snuggle up in a blanket all day and relax. I loved it!

A Fun Fall Birthday Party!

Today the girls and I went to some friend's of ours, Lilly and Wyatt's, Birthday Party! It was such a fun party. The girls made spider's, colored pictures, made bracelets and necklaces, and even got some fun Halloween tattoo's and loads of goodies.

Driving to Colorado

As most of you know on our way out of Las Vegas to move to Colorado we got in a car accident. We had to leave two days later than planned and in a rental car (which we had for three weeks - made me really love my van. Although it was really nice, it was small and the girls couldn't keep their hands to themselves). Here are a few pics of my 13 hour drive with just the girls and I. It was crazy (when I turned the rental I have never seen a messier car- opps!), but we made it.

Pioneer Day Parade

Around the 24th of June we went to a great parade to commemorate the pioneer day celebration. It was put on by three stakes in Vegas. The girls had a fun time getting candy (every float was throwing some) and the adults tried to avoid getting soaked by one of the hundreds of water guns that were on the floats.

**I just realized Brooklyn is not in any of these posts. During the Summer we often did our activities during Brooke's nap. Since we lived with Jay's parents there was always a someone at home to watch her.

Visit to Grandma and Grandpa Tiedge's House

Before we moved to Colorado we spent a few days with my Grandma and Grandpa Tiedge in St. George. We went to a fun splash park and just relaxed around their house and ate my grandma's delicious cooking. Kaelyn is modeling some old sunglasses we found in their garage that she insisted on bringing to the splash park and still wears occasionally. On the way to the car the girls saw the statue of the horse head and wanted to get a picture by it (I think the statue looks a little freaky with just a head of a horse and the look in its eyes is so sad).

We had a wonderful time with G&G Tiedge! We love and miss you!

Back in June, Madelyn had her 5 year old check up at the doctors. It hit me so hard that she was five and she just looked so cute that day I had to record it.

I walked into the office today and found Kaelyn with a wet shirt. I asked her why her shirt was wet and she said she wants to see her tongue with Gatorade on it. Love it!

Were here in Colorado!

We almost didn't make it. On the way out of Las Vegas a family pulled right in front of us and totaled both cars. We still have a rental and Jay will be flying to Vegas to pick up the van hopefully this weekend.

Unpacking and then getting my business started has been go, go, go till my head hits the pillow at night. That is my excuse on why I haven't written.

Our house is coming together. I like having all the space for the girls. I especially love our big yard. Most mornings I have been out there weeding, watering or planting and while I work the girls play and I love it!

This morning as I was weeding the girls were collecting rocks and flowers, Eddy our cat was making friends with the neighborhood squirrels (I need to make sure his shots are up to date - dangerous friends) and Brooklyn was inside eating spaghettios from a can she found in the garbage in my living room. Luckily there were no big messes.

The funniest thing this morning was Kaelyn's rendition of a famous Christmas song, "...We can hardly stand to wait, It's Christmas time for JEWS." Nice! The funny thing is one day Jews will celebrate Christmas with us (2nd coming). Right?

Yesterday was a crummy day so today I am determined to make it a good one!

Lolo's - #4 Museum and Visit with Baboo & Liz

A few days ago we went with a friend of mine, Melanie, and her two boys to the Children's Museum here in Temecula. It was the coolest museum that I have ever been too. It actually has received an award from Nickelodeon for being one of the best. The kids had a great time and it was so fun to catch up with Melanie and spend time with her!

Then yesterday we got to hang out with Baboo and Liz. We went swimming and then out to dinner at Pat & Oscar's Pizza Restaurant (one of our favorite places!!). It was so fun to spend time with them! The girls loved every second of it! Even little Brooke (who hasn't seen Baboo since last fall when she was 10 mo. old) was all over him and wouldn't let him leave her sight. She kept chanting his name in the car as we were driving to and from places. We love Baboo!

Lolo's House #3 - Beach Day

Today we went to the beach with Lolo. Madelyn and Kaelyn had never been to the beach before (Brooke went with me when I was here in July) so it was a big treat for them. They dug in the sand, built a sandcastle with my mom, jumped over the waves... I dug up some sand crabs for them to see and hold. There was even a plane that flew by with a banner attached to the back of it that Madelyn got excited about just like I would when I was a little girl.

They really liked it until a huge wave knocked Madelyn over and she fell right on top of Kaelyn. In her struggle to get back up she pushed Kaelyn all the way under the water and mushed her face into the sand. Poor Kaelyn! She has the worst luck with water. She has fallen in the pool twice and now this! Besides the fact that she was covered with sand from head to toe and was uncomfortable she actually didn't overreact as much as I feared she would. Big sigh of relief! Since I grew up with going to the beach all Summer long it was nice to give my girls a small taste of what my playground was like when I was there age. I sure do love the beach!

Lolo's House #2

This morning when I was telling the girls what the plans are for the day Kaelyn piped up, "We have done something everyday!" and then excitedly ran to get dressed. I have really tried to make an effort to keep them busy and to enjoy my time with them without the distractions of voice lessons and school.

My birthday (two days ago) was a perfect day. The girls and I went swimming in the morning, ate lunch, took naps and then went to Coldstones to celebrate with ice cream. Later on that evening my mom took me out to dinner at P.F. Changs and then we went and saw a movie (thanks mom, you are the best mom ever!). The girls were babysat by a really good friend of my mom's. They had so much fun that Brooklyn wouldn't come to me when we went to pick them up. She just didn't my mom's friend to put her down.

Then yesterday we played at the playground and went to the library in the morning. Then after dinner we went swimming with Lolo. Madelyn has become such a fish! Yesterday she was swimming all over the place. She is really becoming a good swimmer. Kaelyn hates the water (she has fallen in twice in the past two years almost drowning). We are working on getting her to feel comfortable swimming with floaties. Brooklyn has no fear of the water. Half the time she is pushing herself out of my arms to get a way from me.

Lolo's House #1

We are here at my mom's house (Lolo) in San Diego for this next week before we move to Colorado while Jay is in Missouri for a Barbershop Convention. We got here on Sunday and have been having a really good time.

Here are some pictures from yesterday. Earlier in the morning the girls and I went to a local farmer's market. I gave them each a bag and told them they could load them up with whatever they wanted. They loved it and now we have tons of healthy, yummy snacks! Madelyn told me that it was the best day ever (and it was only 10:00 AM - Love it!). On our way out of the store the cashier was so enamored with Brooklyn that he gave all three girls balloons.

Then later on we met up with an old friend of mine, Stephanie, and her kids at the mall near by. The kids loved to play on the quarter rides and play area. It was nice to visit with Stephanie! We get to see each other about every two years so it is always nice to catch up on each others lives.

Later on in the afternoon after a fun video call with daddy and a yummy dinner with Lolo we went swimming for Family Home Evening. The girls were so worn out after swimming (a sign of a successful vacation day)!! I think it took Kaelyn a total of 3 seconds after her head hit the pillow to be asleep.

Two More Weeks

I can't believe we have only two more weeks until we get the keys to our new home in Westminster, Colorado. These past few days I have been super busy trying to get all the loose ends tied for our move. The girls have loved being the in the car for a couple of hours here and there and driving to the store, then the post office, then the doctors, etc. It is almost like a game for them to see if they can remember our next location we will be driving to.

On Sunday Jay will head to Kansas for a week to attend a week long Barbershop College and I will be driving to my mom's house to spend a week with her. I can't wait to slow down and spend time one on one time with the girls before things get busy again with unpacking and settling in to our new routines.

I really want to be able to keep a consistent journal here on my blog. This is such a change for our family and just have been feeling the urge to record our new adventure in Colorado. Blogging is not my forte, however I just got a new laptop yesterday and feel like maybe it will be easier now.

I really will miss Las Vegas. The biggest thing (and probably the only thing) is the people. I will miss being close to Jay's family and will miss all of the friends that have come to mean so much to me. The one thing that comforts me when I start feeling a little down about leaving all these people I love is the fact that Jay and I have felt that this is what the Lord wants for our family. We have fasted and prayed or have gone to the temple about every big decision that we have had made these past 9 months that has led us up to going to Colorado. I know that this is the right decision for us and that brings me a lot of peace!

Little Anti-smokers

The past few days Madelyn and Kaelyn have been very persistent in pointing out all the people who smoke. Every time they spy someone who is smoking they go into a in depth discussion between the two of them on how it wrong. They then bring me in to their circle by asking several questions on the subject of smoking. I love how curious they are and all the questions that they ask me as we are driving to and from activities. I love that they are understanding right and wrong. Many times our smoking conversations will end with Madelyn from the back seat of our van proclaiming that Jesus doesn't want us to smoke and that is all the reason we need! I completely agree Maddy!

Mom, do you hear the birds singing?

This morning Jay got up at 5:00 AM with our early risers (B&K) so I could sleep in a little longer. After an hour of extra sleep I found Madelyn in my bed laying there looking at me sleeping.

Upon seeing my eyes open slightly she asked me if I could hear the birds singing and commented on how beautiful their voices were. I realized that she had been laying there just listening to the birds sing.

It reminded me of the scripture in Matthew, "Except ye be converted , and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven".

When was the last time I woke up and took the time to enjoy the sounds of the birds or admire another one of God's creations?

Seventh Wedding Anniversary

Today is Jay and I's seventh wedding anniversary and since it fell on a Sunday this year we decided to celebrate it yesterday. Since Madelyn's birthday is the same day as our anniversary, like always we started the day by celebrating Maddy's birthday with a fun party (see previous post). We then headed to the Las Vegas Temple to attend the wedding of one of my previous voice students who was also one of Jay's choir students. It was so special to see this beautiful young woman get married to a great young man. Being there on our anniversary brought back so many memories of our special day and gave me the chance to ponder on how sacred and special our Jay and I's relationship is.

After the sealing we went to Olive Garden and then out to a movie. The fun part about this date was that both the dinner and movie were gifted to us so we were able to enjoy a really nice date without feeling like we were overspending.

Being able to spend time ALONE with Jay was so nice. It was nice to just focus on us. I am so grateful that we are married and are sharing our lives together along with our three beautiful princesses. I love you Jay!

Yesterday we had a splash party for Madelyn's 5th birthday. We set up a few kiddie pools and sprinklers and the kids had a blast! The party was so fitting for Madelyn who loves wearing her bathing suit. If I let her she would wear it every day all day (no joke). The kids just screamed and screamed and screamed. They had so much fun!

It is amazing how fast these five years have gone. I am so grateful for Madelyn. She is so smart and loving! I love cuddling her and hearing about the things she thinks about and experiences in her young life. I love listening to her sing in the car and around the house. She reminds me of me when I was a little girl how she is constantly singing songs that she made up on her own and loves to be the center of attention.

Memorial Weekend

This past memorial weekend was so nice. Jay and I started it out by running a 10K on Saturday morning together. The race took us right by the Las Vegas Temple. Knowing this I loaded my IPod with EFY music and my new favorite CD, Anchor, by the artist Mindy Gledhill (click here to listen to my favorite song). It was really nice to be up by the temple, running and listening to great uplifting music. I loved it! Thanks to the music and a lot of sprint training exercises before the race, I ran my fastest time yet. It was so much fun to be running it with Jay. We both have run several races in the past year, but due to some injuries we have never run one together. I love running and have to credit Jay for getting me back into it. Last year he trained for and ran a half marathon. Watching him cross the finish line made me want to run too. Since then I have run in three races (one was a half marathon) and continue to run three to four times a week. I love running! It is so therapeutic and makes me feel like I am accomplishing something big. PLUS it makes my body happy! Thanks honey!

On Monday morning after Jay's annual singing gig at a local cemetery we loaded up the van with the girls, a picnic and Jay's parents and their dog and headed to the Colorado River for some fun in the sun. It was nice to spend time with the family and the girls loved the water.

Wow I thought I was the only one that took notice of how ineffective my mom brain can be.

A few nights ago I was rocking Brooklyn and she asked in her 17 month mumble, "I want milk".
My response: No (she had just had a big bottle of milk)
Her response: Awww!
A few minutes later she asked again and the same exchange of words happened. It just surprises me she can communicate so well at such a young age.

Karaoke is so Fun!

Last night I went and did karaoke with a few of my adult women students. I have never sung karaoke before. I have sung classical music and performed a lot of sacred music, but NEVER pop music and I wasn't sure at first why I had agreed to do this. Turned out to be one of the funnest things ever! I can't wait till next month when we do it again!

I had someone videotape me so I could improve on my performance for next month and to watch my technique. After watching it I was pretty happy with my performance. I was really nervous the first part of the song, but by the end my nerves had subsided and I was loving every minute of it.

We all ended up singing two songs. The second song I sang was one of my favorites from my childhood "Momma He's Crazy" by The Judds. It was soooooo fun to sing country and to rock out on the stage. Singing it brought me back to when I was twelve screaming out the chorus "Mama he's crazy, crazy over me..." and wishing a boy was crazy over me.

Madelyn's Preschool Graduation

Yesterday was Madelyn's preschool graduation. Besides the fact that we couldn't understand a word that was said because of a bad sound system it was fun to watch Madelyn on the stage! We were sitting on the front row a few feet away from Madelyn and it was torture to her. She kept holding out her hands asking for hugs. She is such a loving child.

I am glad that I signed her up for preschool I really loved her class. There was only six kids so she received a lot of attention from her teacher who I absolutely loved!

With all the attention from the ceremonies she proclaimed on the way home that this was the best day ever!

Torturing Brooklyn

I have to write this down somewhere before I forget. Brooklyn, who is 16 months old, just happened to be up later than her sisters last night so we had some mommy & Brooke time rocking on a recliner upstairs. Grandma was sitting there with us and was flipping through the channels on TV. Nothing was on so she turned to The Food Channel. Instantly Brooke started saying "mmmmm, mmmmm, mmmmm" (she was loving the food) so we kept it on for her. About 10 minutes of repeating "mmmmm" over and over again a beautiful meatloaf wrapped in bacon came on the screen. Brooke instantly grabbed her stomach then threw her hands up in the air and then covered her eyes as if to say "I can't take this anymore! I want that food! This is torture!" So cute! We just busted into laughter. Poor child being tortured by The Food Channel!

Now everyone don't faint at once, but yes I am back and ready to start blogging again. I blame my year absence on a lot of things, but I won't bore you with the details. I am just feeling the need to start blogging again. Our life is changing (were moving to Boulder, CO in the fall so Jay can start grad school) and I really want to record this new family adventure.

The Judds

Tonight on my way to my in-laws to pick up the girls after a stressful afternoon of teaching lessons I felt like I needed to put on some church music to calm my nerves. I picked up my case of CD's and realized that the church music was at home so instead I threw in an old CD that I hadn't listened to in years. THE JUDDS. I LOVE THE JUDDS! I grew up on them! We listened to them in the car and danced to them around my house. I even wrote a report in middle school about one of their songs. I knew all of their songs by heart and loved to sing to them (especially "Mama He's Crazy" - so fitting for middle school).

Well tonight putting in that CD was so therapeutic! I didn't want to get out of the car. After a few songs Madelyn exclaimed that she almost has them learned (she probably could see how much her mom was enjoying them and wanted to be a part of the excitement). I told her how her Lolo (my mom) and me loved to sing these together when I was young - she tried to learn them even harder. The ironic thing is that The Judds were a mom and daughter duo. The music that my mom and I loved and now my daughters will too because they will probably listen to it as much as the Wiggles now. Oh I love the Judds!!

"Mom, when I am a mom I will have to hold everybody." (Very observant because that is what I do when I am not on my feet. Whether it be the baby, Kaelyn, Madelyn and even occasionally our cat, Eddy, I have someone on my lap)

This last Sunday was Madelyn's first time singing in Sacrament Meeting as a Sunbeam. Right in the middle of the song she pulls out a bag of fishy crackers and starts eating them while everyone else is singing. Jay and I both looked at each other like - did you know that she had those going up there?. It was so cute!

Madelyn's Gift

Actually I don't know if it should be called a gift or a curse. Ever since Madelyn was able to crawl she has been obsessed with anything small (were talking tip of a pencil small!). As a baby she would crawl around and pick up all of the clothes fuzzies and dirt specks we would have on our floors. Just this last weekend she spent a good amount of time observing bugs that were smaller than ants in her Grandma and Grandpa Dougherty's back yard. At one point she thought they might even hear her if she screamed at the top of her lungs "Hello" (so cute).

Well just now I turned around and saw this (don't mind her outfit please. She chose her own clothes today). On her own she decided to start cleaning the floors however she wasn't just wiping them she was scrubbing smaller than the eye can see dirt spots. That's my girl!

Brooklyn 3 months

Poor thing has a mom who isn't good at taking pictures, but at least I am taking them (I hear the third child is the one that will most likely have the least pictures taken of them as an infant).

Brooklyn is still loved by all even though Kaelyn periodically bops her on the head with a toy. She is just becoming interested in toys and loves to watch her sisters dance and sing around the living room.

Here are a few pictures of her at 3 months. She is my little chia pet with all of that dark hair that won't stop growing. She is a big talker (she fits right in with the rest of the women in this family) and laughs when you kiss her on her neck.

Birthday Cake for Jay's Mom

Welcome Brooklyn LeIsle

This past Friday Brooklyn LeIsle was born into our family. She is so cute with lots of black hair and a laid back personality. My mom was here to help out, Jay's mom is now going to take over and then my sister, Collette will be coming later on this week. I have been getting dinners from friends and family and Jay and the even the girls have been a big help. We are so excited to have her here!

I had never participated in Black Friday Mania before so I decided to give it a shot this year. My mom and I tagged along with my friend Michelle who is a total Black Friday Pro and got some great deals!! Waking up at 3:15 AM was a little crazy, but we got everything we were hoping to get and were usually first in line to check out (thanks to Michelle and her "get what you came for and get out of there" plan).

Thanksgiving 2009

For Thanksgiving this year my mom came out and spent the weekend with us. Instead of being on our feet for two days cooking a meal we decided to hit a local buffet. Good choice! The food was excellent and it was so nice to not have to cook.

Maddy in her Chicken costume (she wanted to be a lamb, but after checking out 9 different stores she fell in love with this one - and it only cost me $1.50 yeah for Old Navy sales!), Kaelyn as Snow White (anything princess and she is happy), and the last picture is of them earlier in the day at the Old Mormon Fort Halloween Celebrations. Ever since Kaelyn has learned how to walk our house literally gets torn apart everyday. Madelyn has her messes that she makes, but overall is a tidy person (for example she on average has a pile of napkins by her plate at dinner time from constantly wiping her mouth). Kaelyn is our little mess maker.

Since I run an in-home business from 3-6 PM everyday, everyday I have the ritual of cleaning my home spotless right before lessons(I am sure most of you with kids do this as well).

I wanted to post this post for memory sake so years from now I will remember what I did everyday at 2:00 during this time of my life (and this isn't a bad day). Or when I am missing my kids when they are grown up and gone I can look back at this post and not miss them as much?

Kaelyn Is Growing Up

Kaelyn has been surprising us everyday with all the big girl things she does. Before I forget some of them I needed to write them down.

We went for a second ultrasound a few days ago and Kaelyn came along with Grandma and I. As soon as the baby appeared on the screen she said "Baby, Sister, Baby" and then pointed to my tummy and said "Baby". Then as then finished with the ultrasound she looked up at the screen and said, "Bye, bye baby!".
Yesterday while shopping Maddy and I would ask her to say a word and she would repeat it the best she could.
Last night she pointed to her diaper and said "poo, poo". She didn't have a dirty diaper so I put her on the potty and a few minutes later she went poo, poo. Then she did the same thing this morning and she went pee, pee. At only 19 months!
Tonight I asked the girls who would like to say the prayer and Kaelyn said, "Me". I told her what to say and she repeated a few words from each phrase and kept her arms folded the whole time.
She understands about everything we ask her of her and follows instructions really well.
She carries around two princess dolls and will not go anywhere without them.

She is growing into such a big girl and has a heart to match it! We Love You Kaester!

I am getting bigger!

She loves the crunchy granola and honey flavored flakes! She has asked for it every morning this week and also asks if it is going to make her bigger and I reply in my most enthusiastic voice "Yes! It will make you bigger and stronger!" She wants to grow up and be bigger so bad!

This last Wednesday for an Enrichment Night we learned how to make fancy fruit trays and how to do it fast. Last night I was invited to go to a party and asked to bring a fruit tray so I put my newly learned skills to the test. Here is what came of it...

Joy School Here We Come!

Today was Maddy's first day of Joy School. She had a wonderful time! She will be going to class two days a week with five other kids her age and the mothers will be trading off with the teaching responsibilities.
I am really excited to have one on one time with Kaelyn before this next baby comes in January. Kaelyn and I went to the library today for toddler story time and without her sister she was so different. She was doing so many of the movements to the songs and standing right at the librarians feet while she was reading them stories. This is hopefully going to be our little outting on Tuesdays when Maddy is away. She did miss her sister. She kept asking "Where's Sista?" and didn't understand when I told her school so she would ask the question again.
I am glad we joined this joy school group! Maddy is playing and learning with friends her age and Kaelyn and I are spending one on one time together. We love Joy School!

Our Craigslist Treasure

This morning I just happened to be browsing craigslist and happened upon a listing for 4T - 5T girl clothing for $25.00. Madelyn is just starting to grow out of her 3T clothing so I couldn't pass this deal up.
Look what Madelyn and I found for only $25.00 (excuse the model's hair. She just had gotten up from a nap). Several of the clothes still had tags on them. I was surprised at how cute they all were for the price. Madelyn was in heaven with all these new clothes. She would point to one shirt and say that it was her favorite until she saw another one and then that would become her favorite and so on (you get the picture).
This mismatched purple skirt and flowered shirt is what Madelyn finally decided she wanted to wear. This was her favorite!The black pants that are really supposed to go with the shirt. What a cutie! Have you found any great deals in your neighborhood on craigslist? If so please share!

Kaelyn Blowing Bubbles

A month ago Kaelyn showed us one of her new developments while her sister was taking a nap. She is so cute and smart! Here are some things about Kaelyn:
1. She is usually the first person to wake up in the mornings and has a set routine. I get her a bottle of milk and then she asks Where's Dada? Where's Sista? about ten times.
2. Almost every time we sit down as a family to just relax she always names everyone- Mama, Dada, Sista, Dada, Mama, Papa (papa used to live with us and she still hasn't adjusted to the fact he isn't here anymore).
3. When she eats she gets food EVERYWHERE! Let's compare and look at a picture of Madelyn eating yogurt at 18 mo. and then Kaelyn at 18 mo. (and this is a typical morning).
4. She loves her sister! If she had it her way she would just hug Madelyn all day long, but since Maddy isn't big on hugs she endures them for a few seconds and then continues on with her own things leaving Kaelyn wanting more.
5. When she plays Peek-a-boo I love it when she tries to say her own name "Where's Nanen?"
6. She is such an easy going kid and we love having her in the family!

Trip to Idaho

For the past three years around my birthday we seem to manage an escape from parenthood by grabbing few days of vacation without kids. This year a good friend of ours happened to be getting married in Twin Falls, Idaho on the weekend of my birthday so Grandma and Grandpa Dougherty stayed with the girls while Jay and I attended the wedding. It was so fun to see a good friend get married to a great person, but it was REALLY fun to spend a total of 17 hours driving time and two days alone with Jay. It was my first time in Idaho and Jay hadn't been there since he was a baby and although Twin Falls is a small town with not a lot to offer it was still fun. Here are some pics.Just on one of the edges of Twin Falls is a beautiful canyon and river. It was breathtaking!

A friend of ours moved houses over the weekend and gave us a few things one of which was a purple felt designer hat. It has gotten lots of use in our house this weekend. The girls have loved their new found treasure!

(This is the 3rd time Maddy as asked if the baby is out of my tummy or if she can take the baby out. So cute!)

The Staple

So yesterday we found a staple in Kaelyn's gums. I sat her down for dinner and she started crying after every bite she took. We couldn't figure out what was wrong. Was her food too hot? No. Did she have a tooth ache? No. She has a staple in her gums!! So we got the tweezers and removed it and all was well, but poor baby! She puts EVERYTHING in her mouth!!

Why I haven't been good at blogging

Well I should add that I haven't been very good at keeping anything up lately because... I am 13 weeks pregnant (and feeling pretty sick - hopefully I am on the tail end of it all).

I just got a comment from one of my readers asking me to post more on my blog. I know, I know I have been absent these past few months, but my blog isn't the only thing that has been negleted.

We are really excited though for this next addition. Yesterday was the first time we got to hear the heartbeat. The nurse before she put the dopler on my stomach stated that because the baby is really small still it will probably be hard to find the heartbeat, but at soon as she put that thing on my tummy we instantly heard it. Already competing for attention!

Jay's mom went with me and the two girls to my appt. After 5 minutes of the two little girlies touching everything in the checkup room I asked her if she would take them out and wait in the waiting room. It was too much.

She told me later that as soon as they got into the waiting room Madelyn turned to another little girl sitting next to her and loudly proclaimed "I don't have a baby in my tummy!" She did ask the nurse too if she could open my tummy so she could see the baby. Such a cutie!

This last weekend we headed up to Utah for my little sister's wedding. It was so fun to be with family for the weekend. I love my family so much! I feel so lucky to have such wonderful people to share my life with.

Jay couldn't come up until Friday after work so I convinced my friend Kim to ride up with me (she had family that she visited up there as well). On our way up she showed me this really fun kids park in Cedar City, UT. It was so fun! There were swings and fun hiding places, forts, cars, and yes even a space shuttle. The kids loved it!

Lentil and Veggie Tostadas

My mother-in-law is a vegan so when she comes to visit we always get treated to delicious vegan dishes. A month ago when she came to visit Madelyn and I decided to make her a treat. This recipe is actually from my Betty Crocker Cookbook. It was by far one of the best dishes I have ever eaten (plus it is extremely healthly for you!). As we were eating it we both commented on how it felt like we were eating at an expensive restaurant. If anyone does try it let me know your thoughts.

Lentil and Veggie Tostadas

Start to Finish: 20 min. Makes: 4 main-dish servings

1 3/4 cups water
3/4 cup red lentils, rinsed and drained
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin (my new fav. spice!)
1 clove garlic, minced
1 to 2 tablespoons snipped cilantro
4 tostada shells (I found that this recipe makes enough for 6 tostadas)
2 cups assorted chopped vegetables (such as broccoli, tomato, zucchini, and/or yellow summer squash)
3/4 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese (3 ounces)

**I also added avocado on top

1. In a medium saucepan stir together the water, lentils, onion, salt, cumin, and garlic. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, covered, for 12 to 15 minutes or until lentils are tender and most of the liquid is absorbed. Use a fork to mash the cooked lentils; stir in cilantro.

2. Spread lentil mixture on tostada shells; top with vegtables and cheese. Place on a large baking sheet. Broil 6 inches from the heat about 2 minutes or until cheese melts.

Nutrition Facts (if anyone is interested): 280 cal per tostada; 10 g total fat; 7 g fiber; 15 g protein

Our Spring Break Vacation

For Spring Break a few weeks ago we drove to Denver, Co to visit my sister Julie and her family. Julie just had a baby 6 weeks prior and with Jay having a week off of school it was the perfect time to visit our family who we have missed since they moved from Vegas a year ago. It was a great vacation (besides the fact we drove 3/4 of the way there in a snow storm). We didn't get a lot of pictures on this vacation (Kaelyn was sick for most of the time and her and I spent the majority of the time on the couch). It was really fun though to see my new nephew and spend time with Julie. Then after spending a week with the Fletcher's we drove up to Provo and surprised my other sister Collette for one of her bridal showers. She is getting married next weekend.

Julie and Jon are currently living in the house Jon grew up in while his mom is serving a mission. The houses in the neighborhood were so cute. Here is a pic of one.
The day after we arrived in Denver the snow followed us there. We got the girls all dressed up in their snow suits. Poor Kaelyn was so bundled she couldn't even walk without tumbling over.

Last Wednesday night Jay had a concert at school. We decided that Madelyn was getting old enough to attend so she tagged along with us while Kaelyn went to a friends house. Before the concert Jay was running through a few numbers with the choir and orchestra. Madelyn decided that it was fun to stand on the conductor's podium with her dad so since it was a run through I didn't think it would be a huge distraction to let her be up on the stage. It was so fun to see her stand by Jay as he was waving his arms and conducting the music. After one of the songs was over and all of the students were quietly waiting for their next set of instructions in the loudest yet cutest little girl voice Madelyn looked up at her daddy and said, "Daddy, I have to go potty!" It was so cute! She was waiting so patiently for the right moment to ask.

Maddy's Special Day!

Madelyn has been asking Jay and I if she could go to the temple for a few months now. Every time someone would say "Temple" Madelyn would instantly ask if she could visit the temple. We haven't found the time to take her (it is usually almost her bedtime after lessons and dinner and Jay has been busy with choir events almost every Saturday these past few months). A few weeks however Madelyn's wish came true. Here are some pictures of our visit.

My Singing Princess!

Today Madelyn decided she was going to dress up in one of her princess dresses and serenade each of my voice students as they waited for their lesson with "Once Upon a Dream". A voice student would come into the house, she would sing her song and then take a nice bow at the end. She listens to these people sing in her house 2 hours a day. I could only guess she wanted to join the singing party! She has asked me for a lesson before. So cute! (The picture is of her a few weeks ago. I was teaching lessons when she was doing this and heard about it from Grandma and Jay)

I remember when I was a little girl this was one of my favorite things to do in the tub; so every so often I relive my childhood through playing hairdresser with my girls. Fun times! Madelyn's hair is getting so long I don't know how much longer we are going to get it to stand straight up.

Two days ago Kaelyn turned one! I can't believe how fast this year has gone! What a wonderful addition she has been to our family. She is our adventurer going and doing things that Maddy never did at her age (her favorite place to hang out is in the bathroom cupboard). She has such a loving and gentle spirit. She is almost always smiling! Her newest thing is giving kisses on the mouth and shaking and nodding her head to questions we ask her. She absolutely loves her sister Maddy (and most of the time the feeling is mutual). This chair she is sitting on was one of Madelyn's Christmas presents, but she has claimed it as hers and is so proud of herself when she sits in it. I love you Kaelyn! Thank you for always making your family smile!

Sea World

Biggest Loser Finale Tomorrow Night!!

I am so excited because tomorrow night is the Biggest Loser Finale. I don't watch a lot of TV except an occasional Oprah, American Idol and B.L. A few friends will be coming over to watch the finale with me. If anyone that reads my blog is here in Vegas you are welcome to join us. We will be having our own contest - who can make the yummiest snack with the lowest amount of calories. I am excited to get healthy dessert/snack ideas.

Here are two of my favorite people on Tuesday Nights. They do such a good job promoting healthy eating and exercising. I would have to say though that Jillian is my favorite of the two. She just knows how to win the game and she tries to change people from the inside out.

Here's my rant: I will cry if Vicki wins tomorrow night. She is so mean and thoughtless. All she cares about is herself. I really want Michelle to win, but won't be sad if Heba wins.

We shall see!!

We Love Santa Claus!!

Jay and I took the girls to see Santa last Friday. We thought Madelyn would be too scared to sit on Santa's lap , but she did and asked for presents for Christmas. Then a friend of ours (Brother Stringham or "S") in our ward came over to watch a show on Monday night with Jay dressed as Santa from a party. Maddy was still awake so we brought her out to see Santa. The reaction and look on her face to see Santa in "her" house was absolutely adorable. She has been talking about it for days. In fact last night she sat on the couch, said ho, ho, ho and then asked me to sit on her lap. I did and as I was getting up she proclaimed, "Mommy your fat! You gotta big butt!" Where did my sweet two year old learn the "B" word. AHHH!!! And hopefully she won't be that frank and truthful with anyone else. I did find some "painting in action" shots of Maddy and I. I absolute love my kitchen now!!! Painting the cabinets made my kitchen feel new to me.

Halloween Puppet Show

Today we went to the Green Valley Library to their Halloween Story Time for kids 0-5. Maddy was so excited to go with Grandma, Kaelyn and friend Christina. When we got there we found out that it was a puppet show. The girls LOVED it and it even held Kaelyn's attention for most of the show. The puppeteers were great and they had a witch that would come out and talk to the puppets and sing songs with the kids. Then after the show they had a mini trick or treat trail for the kids to follow and get candy. The girls just loved it! I really need to call the library to tell them what an amazing job they did. It was one of the best children's activities I have ever taken Maddy too.

Lately Maddy will call me by my first name when we are in public places such as the store, church or the park. This morning on our way back from taking Daddy to work she said "Megan Dougherty". It is amazing to me that at only 2 years old she is understanding so much. I replied by saying "Yes and you are Madelyn Dougherty". She thought about it a little bit and then said "Coco Dougherty" (Coco is short for Aunt Collette who is MY sister so she doesn't have the same last name). I just laughed and told her good job because she was understanding the whole same last name = family concept. Being a mom is so fun!

Grandma and Grandpa's House

This past weekend Jay went to Bakersfield, CA for a Barbershop Competition so the girls and I headed up to St. George to visit MY grandparents. It was so fun to be able to spend time with them and especially to see them treat Maddy the same way that they treated me when I was growing up. My grandma supplied Maddy with several yummy snacks and Maddy loved to sit on the stools by the counter and talk to my grandma while she was preparing dinner or washing dishes (something I remember doing a lot growing up). With my grandpa they would have tickle wars and play hand games which we did ALL the time with me when I was young. Maddy did not want to leave and I don't blame her.

Kaelyn was her cute self. She mastered the art of crawling this weekend and was content to play on the floor going from toy to toy and periodically checking to make sure I was still around.

I stepped away for a few minutes and came back to Maddy trying to help by feeding Kaelyn. They were both having fun! Below is the outcome of the feeding!

Cute Sisters!! They play so well with each other at times. Kaelyn is only 8 pounds lighter than Maddy. She is already in 12 - 18 mo. clothing at 7 months old. She is super tall!

Jay got home from work really late one day and both girls just wanted to sit on his lap.

We got a little crazy with a pair of Maddy's sunglasses.

There is never a dull day at the Dougherty house! These two cuties keep me busy, but are super fun!! Madelyn repeats just about everything she hears. Kaelyn just did her first baby sign language this morning and loves to babble on and on. So Cute!!!

After cleaning the sliding glass door leading out to the patio room/ play room for the umpteenth time this week I found Maddy doing this with a wet rag...
All I could say to Maddy was "Thank You"! She was just trying to help her mommy.

Trying to keep a sliding glass door finger print free in a house with kids is like trying to teach your 2 year old to stop picking her nose. It will never happen!!

Maddy is Cute!

Some of the things Maddy says are so cute. This morning while dropping Jay off at work she out of the blue said, "Have a good day daddy!" and "Have fun at work, daddy!". These might seem like normal phrases, but in her little 2 year old voice and having never said them before it was so cute! Kaelyn is now sitting up by herself for long periods of time (these pics are a few days old) and picking things up with her thumb and pointer finger. She is also constantly clapping. She is such a happy baby.

Calling all little mommies!

Calling all little mommies between the ages of 2 and 5 who have visited the Dougherty Residence in the last month! Is this your baby? We mommies at the Dougherty home have been taking really good care of this precious baby (as you can tell from the photos).

Mommy Maddy can be found swinging the baby in the swing, feeding her, and playing with her over ALL of her other babies. Mommy Kaelyn has even showed interest in her by showering her with many slobbery kisses and brightening up at the sight of her.

However we feel it our duty to return this baby to her rightful mommy who is probably missing her dearly. We have enjoyed her presence in our house, but the other baby dolls have been feeling neglected by how fond both mommies have grown to her. If this is your baby (bald head with brown eyes and she came with no clothes) please let us know so we can return her to her rightful mommy.

Getting Ready for Bed

When Kaelyn was one month old I did something that I strongly advise against - I took my one year old and newborn and got professional pictures done. I don't remember the last time I was as stressed out as I was that day. I was so stressed my clothes were soaking wet with sweat at the end of our scheduled shooting time. Here is a picture from this crazy day. Maddy would NOT let Kaelyn touch her!! We finally coaxed her into it by letting her hold this old, stuffed nasty rabbit. So here are these cute little girls in these cute little outfits with a silly old red-eyed rabbit sitting on Maddy's lap. Priceless!

Well tonight before bed we were hanging out and I decided to get the camera and take some pictures. Maddy wanted to hold Kaelyn the whole time. This time it was Kaelyn's turn to throw a fuss. Maddy would not let go of Kaelyn and Kaelyn was not one bit pleased to be in Maddy's lap. Here are some pictures of us just fooling around before bedtime.

I have to say that the biggest reason I am posting these is for Grandpa Dougherty so he has some fun pictures of the girls to start out his day tomorrow at work. We love you Papa Dougherty!

New Shoes!

So I love Target! For all of you out there who are looking for great clothes at affordable prices... just go to Target. I like Wal-mart, but never feel like the clothes are designed and made as well as the brands at Target.

Here are a new pair of shoes I got a few days ago. They are way comfortable and a nice fit . My husband calls them my Tim Burton shoes because he thinks they look like something out of Edward Scissor Hands the movie, but I like them.

A friend of mine put it perfectly on Sunday "We girls don't dress to impress our husbands, but other women." Cute clothes = Cute Gal! My two sisters have much more fashion sense than I, but I am trying!
